Hey Ann & Eric, You know, I was going to update you last week but then I thought that you guys had probably heard from me quite enough -- non-paying customer and all.    Bottom line:  Eric's last instruction about utilizing the "coupler" to attach the L1 to the purple relay did the trick.  Just like that I went from no fire to a well regulated fire.  And my earlier electrical snafu -- frying the cord that connected the oven to the wall outlet -- simply cost me $9.00 at Lowes for a replacement cord.  Sears appliance parts store here wanted nearly $30.00 if you can believe it.  So, many, many thanks to you good folks for all your help.  Couldn't have done it without you!  And "Repair Clinic" was surprisingly lame in their customer support, or lack thereof, I should say.  Thanks again and all the best to you and yours!  Alan J. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH  I'm in Florida, I just purchased a  Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer Nov. 25, 2006, while washing clothes on Saturday Dec. 29th (New Years Weekend) I got an error code F 01, I did everything the troubleshooting guide instructed and could not get it to operate. My clothes were trapped in the washer!!! I called numerous appliance stores all of which were closed, except for 1 and I couldn't get any information on at least opening the door to free my clothes without setting up a house call service that I would be responsible for. Whirlpool said if I did anything it would void my warranty and I wouldn't be able to get service until Tuesday.. AHhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!  All I wanted was some direction on opening the door so my clothes wouldn't spoil/sour. At least until Tuesday so I can get it repaired.  Must be top secret stuff... After searching for hours on the Web I found a question on Allexperts.com similar to mine, just the door being locked and the reply from Eric C., at the end of the reply it said to contact him if the answer didn't help.......So, I looked up the web site, found Affordable Appliance Parts, out of state, and called.  I can't recall who answered the phone, but he was sympathetic to my problem, even though it wasn't his problem and I was calling out of state.. he said there was someone there that could help me but he was busy at the moment with a customer so I called back in 10min.  When I called back I was transferred to Eric who then gave me to Jerry, who saved my clothes from being spoiled while I waited to get repair on Tuesday... Thank you so much for instructing me over the phone and not worrying about whether or not you're getting paid for helping me open the door. You guys were awesome!  My husband usually does repairs and such so when our washer goes out of warranty we will keep you in mind to purchase parts or repair manuals if you carry them. Ann & Eric, I received my parts on Friday...installed them in minutes....crossed my fingers and fired up the oven. It worked like a charm. 10/09/06  Ann & Eric – Affordable Appliance Parts  I called in looking for a washing machine timer on the morning of October 3, 2006, You had what I needed in stock and offered it to me for a very reasonable price.  You also advised that if I placed the order right away that you could get it out by priority mail in the afternoon.  I placed the order and hoped that the part would be delivered by Friday so that I could install it on Saturday morning.  Much to my surprise, the part was actually delivered to my home in No. Carolina on Thursday afternoon.  I rushed home from work and started installing the part as soon as I arrived; by 7:30 PM the part was installed and we were digging into the mountain of dirty laundry that had accumulated.  By bedtime on Thursday we had already done four loads of laundry and everything worked perfectly.  Bottom line is that you did what you said you would do and that is enough for me.  From henceforth I will be your customer and will recommend your company to my friends and family.  Best wishes for good health and continued success in business.  Sincerely,   Ron B. 09/15/06  Dear Mr. Campion: Please accept this letter as my appreciation for the service and attention that I received when purchasing parts from Affordable Appliance Service, Inc.  Please feel free to use the following on your website or posted in your store.  When I originally called Affordable Appliance Service, Inc my washer, GE Prodigy Profile, had began to make a strange noise.  (I live in an apartment complex and own my own laundry units.)  I thought I needed a new motor.  Eric with Affordable Appliance Service, Inc. (AAS) suggested that I do two things, make sure I know that part I need and make sure I get the model number of the unit that needs the part.  Eric didn't want me to order the wrong part, and he was very adamant in getting it right the first time.  I then had the maintenance man of the apartment complex come in and just look at the washing machine.  He confirmed that it needed a clutch.  When I called back to AAS a young lady answered the phone and she, like Eric, was very informative and friendly.  I ordered the part from her.  When it was all said and done, ordering the part was very easy and the information provided was extremely helpful and in plain English so that I could understand what was going on.  The service was prompt and the attention was  extraordinary, even when they were busy they took the time to talk with me and even go so far as laugh with me.  The part came in on the exact day it was promised (amazing because Memphis mail is incredibly slow) and just as easy as to replace as I was told it would be.  I believe that this is an exceptional company and it makes them even more extraordinary to think AAS is located in Pennsylvania and I am in Tennessee and their word was very precise and fair.  Even the maintenance man in the apartment complex couldn't believe that I had gotten the part at such an inexpensive cost or as quickly.  I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the employees I dealt with at Affordable Appliances Service, Inc and I plan on recommending this company to everyone everywhere.  My panic was comforted and my problem successfully resolved and it didn't matter to anyone there that I had no idea what I was talking about.  Eric and I even laughed at the fact that all I knew was how to use the equipment, you know turn it on!  Thank You so much for having a company with so much ethical responsibility and a personality,  You were there to teach and help me when I needed it.  Thank You,  Darlin' Kirkpatrick

07/05/06  Hi Ann,  I wanted to thank you so very much for your responses to my refrigerator problem.  Fortunately, this past weekend being a holiday weekend my local Home Depot had a spectacular sale and we were able to go and buy a new refrigerator for a price we just couldn't pass up.  Since the ref we were having the problem with was quite old and used only as a spare we thought this was the prudent way to go.  Nevertheless, I wanted to thank you for your time - it was very gracious of you and I really appreciated your help!  Candy H.

06/27/06  Eric--We talked to you last weekend about our GE refrigerator. My husband and I just wanted to give you a huge "Thank you" for your advice. We went on line and saw that our model was indeed one of the models in the class action lawsuit. A repairman came today and will be replacing the doors and our ice maker. We probably would not have ever found out about our frig because I usually don't send in the registration cards. 02/24/06  Hello Ann, I just wanted to say thank you for your tips on my GE refrigerator. Sure enough, it was a moisture related issue covered under GE’s recall. The repairman came today, replaced the defrost heater, ordered a new ice bucket and doors for the freezer and refrigerator, all at their expense. 01/05/06   Hi, This week I ordered a whirlpool timer part number 3347027 from you.  It arrived on Friday. I was surprised at your quick delivery.  Timer is working great.  I am a little of a tight wad and I also don't like throwing things away if they are still good.  This washing machine was my daughter's first machine, used.  In my opinion putting over $100 in a used machine is not too good an idea.  The local parts store wanted $120 for a new timer, too high for me.  For 3 years now I have been looking for a used timer.  I was shocked at your low price for a new timer, $89 shipped.  This large difference in price made me a little uneasy.  But I took the chance.  I am well satisfied.  Thanks!  Dave F.

11/03/05  Greeting: I was in dire need of washer repair on a Friday afternoon and could find no-one to do the job. I knew what part I needed, but had no idea how to install it until I found your page at: http://www.affordableappliance.com/Tips/CouplerInstallation.htm   I just wanted to express my gratitude to your company for posting this information. I replaced the coupler in my Whirlpool washer in about an hour with your instructions.  It took that long because I took pictures along the way in case things were different than described in your document so I would know how to put it back together. 10/12/05  Eric, Yes, the fan came in on Saturday, and I went happily to work reinstalling the fan, repacking the insulation, and giving the fridge a good cleaning around the compressor, and overall. Kitty went about scrubbing all the interior parts, and then we reinstalled the box back into its place in the kitchen, and about three hours later, turned on the power, to hear the happy hum of the fan! In a matter of an hour, it was asking to be refilled with its contents, and pulled the temp down to 32 degrees! For the first time since we owned the house, we had to turn down the thermostat to get to the optimum temperature.  I would like to take this time to thank you and whatever staff was involved in assisting me in this chore. It is rare to find a company today that is as willing to assist someone as you have all been. I was running out of options and would have had to spend about $4500 to replace this unit with something that would have fit. I have told everyone I know about how helpful you were, and will refer anyone I can to you if they are ever in need of any parts that you may supply, For starters, my brother has on old Kenmore fan that has been in the family for years and years, and along with being a great fan, it is also a reminder of our childhood years. The motor is shot, and he would very much like to repair or replace it. 02/11/05  Hello, I ordered a part from you a few weeks ago. Our refrigerator had stopped working. I found an email on a forum somewhere written by you with extremely detailed step by step instructions on how to diagnose and troubleshoot my problem. So I ordered the part from you that I determined I needed following these instructions. A defrost control module. It was as easy to order it from you as locally, because no one keeps it in stock anyway.  I just wanted to let you know it worked. It was exactly what I needed. My refrigerator is working like new and I had it working before a repairman could even be scheduled to come to my house. 03/18/04  Hello again Ann, I just wanted to say thank you for being so patient with me.  I just bought this refrigerator from a friend.  I have what you called a "trivet", however there is still something missing.  It seems to be a bottom self of some sort, because there is a place with notches that would support a shelf.  it seems there would be some kind of drawers or something.  Please  let me know.  I have the trivet, does it just lay at the base of the refrigerator.  I know you don't have time for all these questions, help if you can.  I will buy when I figure out what it needs.  Christina H.

03/17/04  Dear Ann-Thanks so much for your help!!  Actually the burner works fine...however an enamel coated teapot with a plastic handle was allowed to boil "way past dry" and now the burner is coated with a combination of enamel and plastic. In addition the element got bent out of shape when the teapot was eventually pried off the burner.  I think the burner is a goner. I'm going to double check the serial number on the stove before I order the part you mentioned below. Can you save it for me for a couple of days?  Thanks again.  Mary C.

03/07/04  Hi Ann,  Snow this morning in CT!  Only a couple of inches though.....!  Thanks for the quotes on parts and prices for my stove problem.  I would lean towards the clock timer, since it is the clock indicator that is blinking and sometimes goes out all together before the dreaded F6 appears, and the beeper goes off.....BUT, my wife's opinion is....why invest 2 - 3 hundred dollars and possibly not fix the problem?  Can't disagree, so it looks like a new stove is looming over the horizon.  Off today to look at NEW stoves!!  I used to work for IBM as a repair guy, and it was easy to fix problems like this by swapping in new parts until the problem was resolved.  Not quite as easy when the parts are not in your tool bag!!  Thanks again for all your help.  David S.

03/04/04  Thanks Ann for letting me know. It is Friday early AM here and it has not arrived. But Global does not usually arrive for 5 days from the US, even though they say maybe 3 to 5. 03/03/04  Hi Ann, Thanks for writing back.  None of the burners will click or light, so I am assuming the problem is before the switches...But, since I wrote, I've played around a little with it, and the spark module is NOT getting the 120 volts on terminal (L).  I think the problem could be even before the spark module ( I guess?)  Any thoughts most greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Kristen M.

03/02/04  Ann: Thanks for your response.  I remember seeing a screen (don't remember if it was used or new) for $12.  What I really need is the handle that came off the lint screen, making it difficult to move the screen in and out of the dryer.  I hope you sell them with a handle. 03/02/04  Hi Ann,  Thanks for your prompt reply.  I removed the cover from the basement power panel to get access to the double circuit breaker for the range/oven.  Both legs of the circuit read 110 volts.  I did not check the circuit at the other end where the range/stove is plugged in. I will do that next and let you know what I find.......(It seems very odd though that the AC power would change only on one circuit?  Just out of the blue at 7 pm last night the F6 light went on and the unit beeped until reset...?)  Thanks,  David S.

We are talking about a 3" triangular piece of sheet metal with 3 holes drilled into it. Just installed the part yesterday.  Had trouble identifying the correct wiring.  Everything was reversed on the new part.  Thought red to red would be correct, (that is the way it was on the other part).  It went on the green side though. 02/14/04  Thank you Eric. I sure appreciate your help, and thank you for the combined shipping. You guys have been so helpful to me. The lady at the church who I work for thinks I’m not too sane. (whose washing machine this is) I believe you are close…in fact between us we may have almost as much sanity as any one who didn’t have too much. In one discussion with Ann, I think she mentioned a fan, and I noticed pin holes and label on the clock board mounted on the touchpad frame. It gets pretty warm, but I didn’t really think it was too hot – but, it is time and temperature. The board gets pretty hot to solder it, but it doesn’t stay hot very long.  Well, we’ll just see this stuff when it comes in and make it work. Thank you for your help.  Ray K.

02/12/04  Hi Ann  Thanks very much for your help. The problem is solved. I checked the drain and there's no more icing up at the drain outlet so that the problem actually was the backward fan blade installation - what a relief. I think when you suggested that the fan might be the cause of an overly cold coil compartment i.e. it being loose on the shaft, etc. , that cued me into thinking about the possibility of a backwardly installed fan so that your input was key to the solution.  It really was such a silly problem that I suppose it could be easily overlooked by any service person - I'm actually somewhat surprised that GE didn't have fool-proof means of ensuring that the fan only went on one way period or that a special one-way cupped blade wasn't necessary for proper air flow.  Anyway, Thanks again.  Paul M.

Also, the part for the Kitchen Aid arrived today and all is well..  I'm not sure what to do with the old piece as I would like to recycle.. but I suppose that it's off to the landfill since it's hard to tell what kind of plastic it is. Maybe I'll pull the hardware off it to keep back for spares.. not that we'll ever need them...  if you could use the rollers, slider or any parts off this piece, I'd be happy to send it or the parts to you...  maybe someone would have a need...  It has the seals and all in tact...   but I find it hard to believe that anyone would ever have a need for those pieces, though I could be wrong??? I'm a recycle nut here but in Bay Village, it's a real hassle to recycle..  when I lived in Ft. Wayne, IN it was a lot easier.. what they didn't take from the bin curbside, they took at the local grocery store at the recycling center there... so it was very convenient. 10/03/03 I received the part for my stove today, and I have successfully installed it. I did not know that the unit would come without the front label on it. I had to take the sticky front label off of the old one, and put it on this one. No big deal though, I completed it without any troubles. I got it installed, and now, my oven works as it is supposed to. 09/17/03 Dear Ann, Your were kind enough to send me a used timer at the end of April (you sent it to a different address which is my home in the country) and I used it about 10 times or so. The timer had been the problem and after installing it, the dryer worked just fine until the motor finally gave out so I decided to spring for a brand new dryer and removed your timer before sending the old dryer to the dump. 08/21/03 Eric- You were right! It was the "Pot & Pans" little switch. I bought the meter and was finding out how to use it when I thought I would examine the switches you were going to have me test. I noticed a discoloring around the connection, moved it back and forth, and a rather large flash occurred, and it started working. I turned off the circuit-breaker, cleaned up the connections, and it works! Do I wait for it to die again, wait for a fire to pop up inside the dishwasher, replace it, or not worry about it? I'm sure liabilities prevent you from one or more of the answers, but any other advice I should know about? Jay H.

08/02/03 Ann, Yipeee! Flushed the drain using hot water and a turkey baster....and sucked out a dust ball....once removed, drain flows freely. Thanks so much for your help on this! I will check the bolts and level the fridge...and you are right on target there. We bought the fridge from my sister...worked fine at her house and has been a royal pain at mine...leaks, can't use the ice dispenser, etc. If simple bolt tightening and leveling does not help, will order the valve.

07/25/03 Thank you Eric. Problem apparently resolved. A piece of insulation had fallen into the fan behind the unit which jammed it. Cleared the fan and it runs normally. The refrigerator and freezer temperature quickly returned to normal once the fan was cleared. Apparently without the fan running, the compressor was cutting out due to heat build up in the coil. by the way, the model number I gave you is all that's listed on the name and data plate. 06/22/03 Greetings Eric! Your description of the solenoid valve on that Frigidaire dishwasher was right on the money. Once I drug the portable machine out from its nook in my shop I was able to lay it on its side, and really get a full view of the assembly. This sure beats standing on your head to work on a built in machine. That is why I have always had a portable machine in my shop; ease of service. Once on its back I could see that the solenoid was moving freely, but the drain valve arm was slow to return to its top stop position, if it returned at all. This was the source of my pumping the water out while the machine should have been in a wash cycle. Since this is just the machine in my shop I opted to fix it with an external return spring on the valve lever arm. A slightly modified carburetor linkage return spring was just the ticket. I specifically appreciate you allowing me to return the touchpad that I didn’t need and for Eric’s assistance with helping me to troubleshoot the actual problem that turned out to be the power control PC board.  I’m frankly a little embarrassed that I didn’t properly diagnosis the problem with my microwave oven correctly the first time since my background is in electronics.

Being the Quality Manager for my company, I deal with customer complaints on a daily basis. While you’ve indicated Affordable Appliance is a small company, I can tell you that your company could be a model for other much larger companies on how to delivery CUSTOMER SERVICE, from the fast turnaround on parts, to the expert technical advise, to allowing me to talk directly with a real live person versus an automated telephone selection menu.

Again, I appreciate your efforts and response to my problem. And yes, I did learn a good lesson; I will call and discuss any future appliance problems with you and Eric before I order the wrong part next time. 02/22/03 Dear Ann, Just a quick note to let you know that we received the timer you sent--actually it was almost a week ago, but things have been a little hectic lately and I haven't had a chance to write. I also wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your excellent customer service, promptness in responding to my request, and the speed with which you got my order to me. 02/02/03 Ann: I found your store while searching the internet for "affordable" GE range replacement parts. While looking over your parts list I had a questions so I decided to call and spoke with you, Ann. You were very pleasant and informative and when you said you'd call me back in 10 minutes you did! You even advised me to use a part I could get locally for 6 dollars rather than send me the part that YOU had in stock! Service like this is just not found very much these days. Anyway... 01/12/03 Ann...I wanted to send you a note of thanks for your awesome support. I was ready to buy a motor from you for our dryer and you actually suggested that I look into it a little further before purchasing a potentially unnecessary part. Come to find out you were exactly right! There was nothing wrong with the motor at all. The belt had simply slipped off. The kicker is that we had a "professional" local repairman come and assess the situation for us and he was the one who told us that the motor was shot. I'm glad he didn't offer to take the "useless" dryer off of our hands! Needless to say, we won't be calling on him any more and our dryer is working fine. 01-05-03 Eric.. I tried G.E.'s on-line advise first--set freezer and refrigerator back to normal (5). Everything in the fridge really froze then! Then I tried your advise and I unplugged the unit for 8 hours, plugged it back in with freezer set on 4 and fridge set on 3. So far (4 days) everything seems normal. Thanks for the help!!  Clyde P.

12-26-02 Dear Pamela...Did you look inside the pump, if not, check there first. You have an electric pump. Is it running? Inside the electric pump housing are impellers. They may be tangled with lint balls or string. Pull out all you can and if the impellers are not damaged, your pump should be fine. If the impellers are damaged, you may have to replace the pump. (Response) Hi Ann, thanks for your response. I took the hoses off the pump and found the big one to the tub clogged. I cleaned the hose and the pump and the washer now works like new. Thank You! 12-16-02 Eric & Ann...Thanks for your help, I took the water inlet valve apart and found that the screen was blocked with sand. I cleaned it out and everything has been working great!!!! I also installed a filter where the water comes into the house from the well to prevent this from occurring in the future. Thanks again for your help and knowledge in solving this is issue. 12-10-02 Dear Ann...Thank you for your free advise and your wonderful service. We ordered the coupler, and although we had absolutely no experience in this arena, we managed to replace the part and put it all back together. Everything works great now! You guys saved us at least $300, since we didn't have to buy a new washer. Also, everyone we dealt with, both online and on the phone, was courteous, knowledgeable and professional. It was right on the money... the refrigerator is 14 months old and the warranty was only good for 12 months, however the problem was the compressor went bad, which is a good thing, because this particular part has a 5 year warranty. 11-22-02 Ann, I just wanted to drop you two a note to let you know that the repair of the Whirlpool oven was successful. Replacing the microcomputer was the key. Thanks again to the super service. I attached a copy of our emails to the inside of the stove so that I can call you the next time I have any problem with an appliance. I first attempted to call Whirlpool service about a year ago when a fuse blew in my built-in microwave oven. They basically blew me off and sent me to Sears. Sears was willing to have someone come out to my house for a "minimal" service fee of $55... and then he could give me a quote for the parts and labor to fix the part the next time he could come out. I ended up fixing the microwave for less than $2 by buying a replacement microwave fuse from the local hardware store. You guys made it possible for me to "cheaply" (relatively speaking) fix my oven by myself. You and your husband were more helpful than Sears and Whirlpool put together. (Actually, MUCH more helpful -- since you two where helpful and friendly and they were a waste of my time). I just got the phone call from Heather: the pizzas are done. Time to eat. Thank you again! We love you. (And I won the kitchen cleaning bet... by practically an entire week.) And thanks for being one of the few .com stores that has reasonable shipping charges. I ordered balloons (24 balloons in a plastic bag) and the minimum S&H charge for the slowest method of shipping was $13.95. Pissed me off.
